I read an article a few days ago on NME saying that The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan is accusing Amazon for leaking track-list info of the bands’ reissue of the 1998 album “Adore”. A horrible breaking of an agreement according to Corgan, no doubt. Disregarding the blame game here for a second… What???… “Adore” is coming back??? You don’t understand. This is like my all time The Smashing Pumpkins favorite album! Woohoo!
“Adore” is the bands’ fourth album and was first released on June 1, 1998, with the Gothic song “Ava Adore”. The video, directed by Dom & Nic was most memorable to me. The band oddly moving in slow and fast motions from one set to another, wearing their dark and Gothic costumes. I specifically remember one scene of the video with a Kama Sutra session going on. I guess it was kept to the end on purpose. I absolutely love this song with all its glory. “Ava Adore” is number two on the album track-list, when the first one is “To Sheila”, a poetic heart-warning melody perfectly portrayed by Corgans’ distinctive voice. “Adore” contains total of 16 songs and melodies when my two favorites are track 8 “Appels + Oranjes”, and track 14 “For Martha”, a beautiful tribute to Corgans’ mother, which sheds tears from my eyes every time I listen to it.
With “Adore”, The Smashing Pumpkins created a unique album, unusual to their previous sound of “guitar-driven hard rock” (Wikipedia). You can hear poetic notions full of vulnerability and sadness. By September 23 the band will issue a six disc box set of unreleased music, including a live DVD. Well, I’m marking this on my calendar, you bet your ass! In addition to this phenomenal information, a little birdie called “Rolling Stone” magazine whispered to me that The Smashing Pumpkins announced they are releasing two new albums in 2015, Monuments to an Elegy and Day for Night. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/smashing-pumpkins-reissue-adore-with-three-discs-of-unreleased-music-20140410
So, to congratulate all of you Pumpkins’ fans out there, myself included, for patiently waiting, here’s a nice little treat for us!
