After American Psycho and Dexter, another perspective of serial killing comes alive in this year’s darkest comedy!
This bizarre film tells the story of Jerry (Ryan Reynolds), a seemingly innocent guy who works at a warehouse and develops a crush on one of the workers (Anna Kendrick). Sounds like a usual love story, right? Well, Jerry’s story is slightly more demented as he’s controlled by the voices of his two deranged pets, a cat named Mr. Whiskers and a dog named Bosco. His newly crush asks him if his good with cats when Jerry answers: “No the real question is if cats are good with me because they pretty much own us.” Jerry’s bullied mainly by his Mr. Whiskers who convinces him that the only way he could feel alive is by killing women and storing their heads in the fridge. Jerry’s psychotic actions are supposedly wrapped up with conscientious tendencies as he talks to those decapitated heads and apologizes and… they talk back.
This 2 minute trailer reveals an odd relationship between a man and his pets. Ryan Reynolds is the perfect choice to play the delusional Jerry. He maintains a sexy and funny act even when he’s the nerdy and charming serial killer. He also performs the voices of his two pets, mastering a Scottish and Southern accents…Yes, the ginger cat is Scottish! There is a rising question here of who is really the pet and who is the owner. Due to Jerry’s mental illness those boundaries are crossed (to put it mildly). The Voices has an odd similarity to the story of 70’s serial killer David Berkowitz who killed six victims and wounded seven others, claiming he was taking orders from his neighbor’s dog. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Berkowitz)
The Voices is a twisted film fragranced with dark humor directed by Marjane Satrapi and is one that I really want to see! The film also starring Gemma Arterton and Jacki Weaver, and premiered at the 2014 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
I love a good and surprising plot, and would never decline a bizarre and disturbing film as those are the sweetest candies on my blog!
Check out the trailer:
Oo, no, I think I’ll sit that one out. Sounds a little disturbing. But you enjoy it! 😉

It does a sound film. Not heard of it before. I’ve actually met Anna Kendrick. She really was superb in Up in the Air.

I loved Anna in Up in the Air, I loved the film in general, actually. I should be good on this one as well. It sounds like a very twisted film. I hope it’s good as well as the trailer 🙂

I imagine you own a cat, and if so, by all means don’t listen to it. It might make you do crazy things… to people 🙂 Mad cat woman, love it! If you do watch it, lmk what you think!

I do, I do! His name is Snowie 🙂
The only few things he ever says to me are about being stroked, brushed or fed! But I will be vigilant just in case!
