Some films just have the BEST cast collaborations ever. On my latest post on Death Becomes Her, I praise Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep for being a fantastic combination and turning this film into the absolute classic it is until today. Because I am so freakin’ impressed by those two, I had an idea for a post and decided to collect my favorite duos that ever appeared on cinema history, or from the year I was born in. Some of these… ehm, excuse me, ALL of these films I’ve watched more than once and dedicated plenty of time analyzing the characters, dissecting the plot, and overall obsessing about them. I’m POSITIVE Iv’e skipped on a few good ones here, and for sure there are other great combos I completely forgot about, but here is my top 10 list of the greatest duos on cinema.

Great idea for a top list. I only saw 4 films of this list however, being much more into old classics. Some of my favourite duos would be Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis in Thelma & Louise, Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn in… everything! Michael Powell and Myrna Loy, Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne as Charters and Caldicott, among others.

I loved Moon Indigo. I super fancy Romain Duris and she has been my favorite since Amelie. Classic duos are fantastic. Unfortunately, I don’t catch up on many classic films, and I so should. I’m missing a LOT, I’m sure. Great choices, though, Virginie. You have excellent taste!

thanks! 🙂 I must admit I was a bit disappointed by the film (Moon Indigo) if I compare I compare it to the novel. But visually it was gorgeous. Have you read the novel? By Boris Vian. I love it. You have the feeling he was on drugs when he wrote it ahah, but it’s so special! In the good way.
Oh and I love Amelie. Definitely my favourite “modern” French film. When I went to Paris with my parents in 2009 we went to the Café des 2 Moulins where the movie was shot 🙂

Wow, how nice! How come I didn’t think of it when I visited Paris?? That sounds super nice! I didn’t read the Mood Indigo novel. From what you say, it’s a must! I’ll see if I can get it here in Israel. I do love the director Michel Gondry. The movie was good, but not like other Gondry’s films. I have to say my favorite Gondry film is Human Nature. Very odd and very good film. Highly recommend.

I figured I left out so many. It’s really hard to create such a list, but indeed challenged myself. Bogart and Bacall are a classic pair, unfortunately, never indulged with any of their films together, a sin, I realize. Great suggestions, though! 🙂

One that I always thought worked was Hunt and Paxton in Twister. They had great chemistry together. Woody Allen and Diane Keaton are another pair of greats together – they are amazing to watch in Annie Hall. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon. I could go on all day. Great list by the way. Some I might not thought of.

As you know I adore Goldie and Meryl, and Michelle and Meg, and even though DeNiro and Pacino only shared one major scene together in “Heat,” the diner scene is still one of the most exciting moments of my life as a movie fan (I still remember seeing it for the first time in the movie theatre, thinking to myself, “Wow, is this really happening?”). It’s also one of those rare scenes in a movie where you’re flicking channels, you know it’s coming up soon, and you’ll wait around for 15 minutes just to watch it again.
I still haven’t watched Al and Robert in Righteous Kill, I’m not sure if I ever will.

I was debating whether to put them on that list or not because they have just this one scene, but the idea of those two major actors in one film… wow! I didn’t watch Righteous Kill also… it’s one that I should put on my next list of “De Niro and Pacino films I haven’t seen” Thanks 🙂
